Here are some tips from our friend Kelly Machbitz, certified image consultant.

Here are some quick fixes to salvage your precious (and expensive) makeup:
1. Broken Eyeshadow
Eyeshadow, blush or powder that comes pressed in a compact can be fixed by adding a little rubbing alcohol and smoothed back in place with a butter knife. Let dry completely before using. Another alternative is to transfer powder to a small sifter jar you can find at your local beauty supply store.
2. Dried Out Foundation
Liquid or cream foundation that has dried out can be re-hydrated with a dab of your favorite moisturizer...or olive oil. Be sure to stir or shake well before using.
3. Clumpy Mascara
To get the most out of mascara that has started to clump, take a tip from the pros and use a small fan brush to apply product to lashes instead of the traditional wand. Mascara will also go on smoother if you coat lashes with a small amount of Vaseline before applying.
4. Dull Eye Pencil
If you don't have a sharpener on hand and your eye pencil is too dull to get a nice clean line, use a small, blunt eye lining brush to apply. Simply run brush over end of pencil to pick up product, then run brush along lash line to apply. If your pencil has dried out (has a white-ish or flaky appearance), try soaking the end in a little olive oil for 30 minutes. It will soften and rehydrate for a smooth application.
5. Broken Lipstick
One of the messiest of makeup mishaps, broken lipstick can be salvaged. If it is a clean break, heat one end with a lighter and press broken halves together firmly. Place in refrigerator for 10 to 15 minutes to set. If it is too mangled or misshapen to go back in the tube smoothly, use a small knife to transfer lipstick to a palette you can find at your local beauty supply store for just a couple of bucks. Don't waste your money replacing damaged cosmetics. Get a little creative and save yourself a lot of dough.

Beauty tricks you can try at home
A friend and I were having a “girls” day last weekend, and she brought something to my attention. She came over while I was getting ready and she said I had a lot of neat little tricks that I used that she had not seen before. So I was thinking ... maybe I should put some of them on my blog!! So here you guys go, hope they help you, too.
#1 Make your hair smell awesome all day. I take my perfume, spray just a little into the bristles of my hairbrush and brush it through my whole head. (if you are going to style your hair, do this when it is still wet) Now I started doing this a long time ago, when I worked outside a lot, because there is nothing worse than that outside matted hair smell.
#2 Keep away that “stiff” look from hairspray. When I am finished blow-drying and styling, the last thing I do is spray some hair spray on my brush and run it through my hair one last time. The hair spray still does its job, just without that plastered down look.
#3 Dry out that pimple quick. For those unfortunate times when you have that stray pimple pop up at the most inopportune time you can use any toothpaste to calm it down. Put it on the pimple directly and let it sit for a few minutes, up to 15 if you have the time. Then wash normally. There is something in that stuff that will dry it out nicely.
#4 Make your clothes smell nice. Have you ever received some of those really pretty soaps that you just can’t use? My mom used to give them to me every Christmas and they would just sit in the box in my closet. Well, she gave me a good idea on what to do with them since I am just not the “guest” soap type of person. Put them in your undie drawer, she says to me. Well, I took it one step further and put it in my nighty drawer, my shirt drawer and every other drawer I have. It makes clothes smell awesome! So instead of spending all that money on cachets ... you can buy these really cheap almost anywhere.
#5 Shave without shaving cream. Another tip my mother gave me was to use hair conditioner instead of shaving cream. I had run out one day and she suggested it to me. I was a bit leery at first, but it worked amazingly. And another thing you get is nice smooth legs. If you’re like me, some of the shaving creams seemed to leave my legs a bit dry. Not so with the the conditioner. You wont be disappointed.
If anyone wants to share some cool tricks they use, you can post a comment, or send them to me, and I would be happy to post them.

In case you missed it ... (dry-skin advice)
I don't want to be redundant, but I had a response to my earlier post about make up saving tips for summer asking about some "dry skin" make up tips.
Here you go, everyone:

I did some more research for you and I found quite a few tips for dry skin.
1. Use a good moisturizer, made for dry skin. When using the moisturizer in the morning, leave it on for at least 15 minutes before applying foundation.
2. Now, about foundation: Go for the liquid kind and make sure it is has a high moisture content.
3. When buying any make up, try to make sure that it states that it is for dry skin. It seems as though most of the make-up out there assumes everyone has oily skin cause the products can really dry you out.
4. Try not to use any powders for the purpose of removing shine. You can use the oil blotters if you ever have an issue with shine.
5. There are some mineral sprays out there that can are used as make up "finishers." They moisturize your skin while giving you that "dewy" look.

Saving face (make-up tips for the summer)
Well, I was out all day on Monday, doing my shopping. Stopped to get a bite for lunch and went into the bathroom to wash my hands and when I looked in the mirror I was shocked ... all my make up was GONE! There was literally nothing left.
If you are like me and spend at least 15 minutes in the morning getting all dolled up, then you understand what I was going through. I did some research on how to keep that beautiful face going all day and here is what I found. And since we are in Florida, you can use this info almost all year round.
#1 have an oil blotter handy. They will keep you fresh and will not take off your make up. But if you are desperate I have found that a light tissue does a good job too.
#2 use a make up primer on your face instead of lotion. This will keep the make up in place and suck up all the extra oil that could be on your face.
#3 ALWAYS, apply powder after you put on your foundation. This too will help to get that extra oil.
and finally #4 keep it light!!!! Don't go crazy with the make-up. Go easy on the products and you will do great!
I hope this helps some of you out, I know the next time I head out for a full day of shopping in this beautiful Florida weather I will heed the experts advice. Good luck shopping and if you are having a problem deciding on which stores to go to, why not try going to an independently owned store. Support your neighborhoods.
